Media Release - International Women's Day 2008

Last modified: February 26, 2008 - 2:15 PM

International Women's Day 2008

The theme International Women’s Day for 2008 is '100 years of active women in paid and unpaid work'. This recognises the countless contributions that women in NSW have made towards improving workplaces and working conditions, as well as their tireless volunteering work which has contributed to the growth of more vibrant and robust communities.  Across New South Wales, women living in towns and cities in rural and remote areas are being encouraged to celebrate their achievements in events on or around International Women’s Day on 8 March 2008. The Upper Hunter Shire Council is one of one hundred and twenty-one local councils that have received grants to work in collaboration with community organisations and local businesses to organise community events to celebrate International Women’s Day.Upper Hunter Shire will be celebrating women in the community by hosting a dinner on Saturday, 8 March at St Lukes Hall and invite all the women of the Shire to attend.  The evening includes a presentation by Pam Seccombe and a storyboard display depicting women in the Shire and the contributions they have made.  Tickets are $15.00 and bookings are essential and can be made by contacting Jodie Phelps on 6540 1142.
