Upper Hunter Shire Council Gets Behind National Mobile Phone Recycling Initiative
Recycling your old mobile phone is now easier, with Upper Hunter Shire Council joining the nationwide MobileMuster programme. Collection points have been established in the area and the local residents are encouraged to clean out their drawers of unwanted mobile phone, batteries and accessories. “This is a great initiative and we hope being involved helps boost recycling levels,” says Mayor Barry Rose. MobileMuster is the official recycling program of the mobile phone industry, and is funded by 16 leading mobile phone manufacturers and network carriers. “Our goal is to raise community participation and lift our recycling levels to one-point-five million mobile phones and batteries a year by 2008” says Rose Read, Manager of Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association national recycling program, MobileMuster. We are calling on all local residents to clean out the drawers of all old and unwanted mobile phones and batteries, and bring them down to the landfill centres and drop them into the recycling tubes. MobileMuster recycling bins can be found at the following locations: Scone Landfill, Murrurundi Landfill and Merriwa landfill centres.
