Redoute's Choice Statue UnveiledLast modified: September 1, 2008 - 9:04 AM
Upper Hunter Shire Council Mayor Barry Rose officially unveiled a stunning life-size bronze statue of champion Australian thoroughbred stallion Redoute's Choice at a gathering at Arrowfield Stud on August 23. Cr Rose and Council's general manager Daryl Dutton were among several hundred guests including trainer Gai Waterhouse at Arrowfield's annual stallion parade ahead of the 2008 breeding season. The sculpture was created by Gunnedah artist Tanya Bartlett, who also created a life-size bronze of long-time Arrowfield veterinarian Dr Percy Skyes, which stand outside the main office at the opulent Scone property. Ms Bartlett also created the Australian Light Horse Memorial in Tamworth's Bicentennial Park, a dedication to all the Australian horses sent to war. Her other works include bronzes of Sir Donald Bradman at Bowral, Les Darcy at East Maitland and famous trainer Tommy Smith at Randwick. serving abroad. It is now a recognised breed. Arrowfield managing director John Messara said he believed in celebrating the achievements of outstanding humans such as Dr Sykes, and outstanding horses such as Danehill's pre-eminent son Redoute's Choice, while they were still living. Redoute's Choice is among eight stallions at the leading Australian-owned farm. Redoute's Choice has sired 13 Group 1 winners to date and has had two stakes winners thus far this season with the three-year-old fillies Samantha Miss and Viennese both successful first-up." Redoute's Choice is expected to cover more than 180 mares at a fee of $330,000. Arrowfield and sister property Bellerive, also owned by Mr Messara, are expected to offer 167 yearlings at the major sales in 2009 as well as conducting a significant racing operation.
