Photo Competition forms part of Australia Day celebrations.
Last modified: November 26, 2008 - 9:05 AM
MERRIWA'S Australia Day celebration will feature a Photography competition open to all residents of the Upper Hunter Shire.
Upper Hunter Shire Council's Merriwa-based community services officer Kate Sommerlad said entry was free and entries close on 19 January.
"Photos will be judged in Merriwa a week before Australia day and an exhibition will be held on Australia Day at Merriwa Sports Club," Mrs Sommerlad said.
"Council ran a successful photographic competition with an exhibition at Scone earlier this year and we want to build on the success of that competition," she said.
"The theme of the competition is ‘the spirit of Australia' and the aim is to acquire a photographic story of what Australia means to the residents of the Upper Hunter Shire," she said.
There are two categories - living things and places.
The Living things category aims to showcase individuals, families, groups or "living things", highlighting their spirit, personality or connection with Australia. This can encompass the connection people have with animals or plants.
The Place category aims to highlight Australia's natural features, celebrations, festivals or unique aspects of our communities. This category may encompass buildings, houses, Australian icons and landmarks that hold special significance.
Entries must be accompanied by a completed entry form and up to five photographs per category may be submitted by each entrant.
Photographs must be mounted and no larger than 8 inches by 12 inches.
Entries will be returned and entrants may collect their photographs from local council offices from 23 February 2009.
