Merriwa Christmas Street Party & Late Night ShoppingLast modified: December 5, 2008 - 2:34 PM
At the October 2008 Business Supper in Merriwa, local business operators felt that with the absence of this year's Apex Giant Community Christmas Party, businesses had the opportunity to help contribute to the festive season and promote "shop local" this Christmas. Merriwa businesses and Upper Hunter Shire Council are holding a Christmas Street Party and Late Night Shopping evening for the local community on Thursday 11 December from 3:30pm-7:30pm. The businesses hope this will get people into the main street, browsing local goods and absorbing the festive spirit. Participating businesses will also be treating their customers to some in-store bargains or delights for the evening. Council's Merriwa Growth Strategy Project Coordinator, Tess Hynes commented "It's important that the community come out, support and invest in local business and enjoy the activities the business community have provided in the Main Street. If this year is successful then I'm sure the festivities will only grow in coming years". The Street Party will be held in the forecourt of the Merriwa Tourist Welcoming Centre and there will be activities for children including a free jumping castle and face painting sponsored by local businesses and organisations. There will also be a visit from Santa, chocolate wheel, BBQ available and plenty of Christmas carols and cheer for everyone. Contact details |
