Murrurundi Celebrates Tidy Towns Win

Last modified: December 17, 2008 - 11:43 AM

A celebration will be held at Murrurundi's iconic Pioneer Cottage on Thursday 18 December at 5pm to celebrate the town's recent Tidy Towns award.

Members of the local community and the many community groups in Murrurundi are invited to help celebrate and view the new street banner which has been installed at Wilson Memorial Oval to acknowledge the award.

Acting Mayor of Upper Hunter Shire,  Cr Lee Watts, said "2008 has been an outstanding year for Murrurundi. The Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities award acknowledges the strength of the local community".

Projects such as Turning the Pages, which won a Local Government and Shires Association 2008 Cultural Award, The Norvill Art Prize and the annual King of the Ranges are just a few events which have added to the unique community focussed environment which makes people want to come to Murrurundi.

The Tidy Towns assessor, Peter Clark, made special mention in his report,  that Murrurundi is a very attractive village with ‘atmosphere' and an intrinsic vitality and vibrancy.  He noted that for such a small community, Murrurundi is fortunate to have a large number of community groups working toward the overall sustainability of the town.

Cr Watts said "I invite the whole community to help celebrate the achievements which won the award for Murrurundi".
