THE newly-formed playgroup at Murrurundi is dancing to a distinctly musical beat with early childhood music teacher Melissa Stubbs running a four-week program.

Children are learning about music as well as enjoying making lots of rhythmic noise under Melissa's guidance.

The program received funding via an Upper Hunter Shire Council cultural activity grant and Council's Murrurundi-based community services officer Heather Ranclaud said parents had commented that they were also benefiting from it.

The playgroup has about 10 children at present from 10am to noon each Monday at Murrurundi Preschool in Mayne Street.

"It is a great opportunity for children to make new friends and for parents to socialize, and because it is held at the preschool, children have the opportunity to become familiar with the surroundings.

"It's great that we've been able to share resources with playgroup one day a week and preschool three days a week (in the same building)," Mrs Ranclaud said.

Playgroup in Murrurundi was recently revitalized with the support of Upper Hunter Family InSight.
