2009 Young Endeavour Scheme
Last modified: June 3, 2009 - 11:28 AM
Upper Hunter Shire Council, with the assistance of the community and businesses will once again sponsor four berths (two male and two female) on Australia's (sail training ship) STS Young Endeavour for a 10 day voyage from Williamtown (VIC) to Sydney, 30 November to 10 December 2009.
This is the twelfth year young people in our area have been provided the opportunity to participate in the Young Endeavour Scheme and Council is seeking support and financial assistance for this innovative youth program.
Nominations are open now and close 26 June.
Amelia Brayley - STS Young Endeavour Youth Crew Member December 2008 (nominated by Scone Lions Club) said of her experience that "The one outstanding ‘thing' of the voyage would have to be the half day sail. We were able to share our knowledge and skills with people who had no idea about anything on the boat. I also conquered the main mast and its gasket which I had been avoiding almost all trip."
Mayor, Cr Michael Johnsen urges all community organisations to support this wonderful experience. "Young people in rural areas rarely get to experience the wonders of ocean voyages particularly on a tall ship. It is a great leadership experience for young people in our area. Council proposes to continue to support this scheme and requests the community and businesses to provide sponsorship and to nominate young people 16 - 23 in the Upper Hunter Shire."
Nomination forms and information is available from Council offices or by downloading the documents below. If you would like to discuss the benefits of your business or organisation being involved in this scheme or would like further information, please contact Jodie Phelps on 6540 1142.
