Aged Care Facility to be Expanded
Last modified: June 24, 2009 - 11:25 AM
The Merriwa aged care facility known as Gummun Place is set to build a new activities room. The 2009/10 Council Management Plan has included the construction of a dedicated activities room for the residents at Gummun Place.
Upper Hunter Shire Council's Mayor Michael Johnsen advised that the plans have now been finalised, development application lodged and that work should be put to tender shortly for the construction in the 2009/10 financial year.
"The project has now reached this stage after years of planning by the Merriwa Aged Hostel Committee, together with contributions to the project and an improved financial position of the facility" Cr Johnsen said.
Currently the activities are squeezed into the living area which causes a lot of disruption to the residents. The new building will include activities area and storage, kitchenette, consultation room and additional bathroom facilities. It will provide a great area for the residents to participate in planned activities and a consultation room for visiting health practitioners as well as resident meetings, social events, church services or sing-alongs.
