Young Endeavour Nominations Closing
Last modified: June 24, 2009 - 11:02 AM
NOMINATIONS for the Upper Hunter Shire Council's Young Endeavour Scheme close this Friday June 26.
Council, with support from the community and businesses, will sponsor four berths on Australia's STS Young Endeavour for a 10 day voyage from Williamtown in Victoria to Sydney, from 30 November to 10 December 2009.
Upper Hunter Shire Council Mayor Michael Johnsen urged the community and businesses to consider sponsorship and to nominate young people aged from 16 to 23 years in the Upper Hunter Shire.
"The Young Endeavour Scheme is more than just an exercise in pushing one's personal boundaries; it truly provides a significant long term boost to the participant's ability to contribute positively in all walks of life," Cr Johnsen said.
"We cannot underestimate the affect it has on the young person's confidence and maturity and the resulting personal growth that helps them take the next step into adulthood," he said.
"A key responsibility of the ‘baby boomers' and generation x is to foster and develop leadership amongst generation y," Cr Johnsen continued.
"This will provide a measurement of success in ensuring we all meet the challenges of tomorrow and the Young Endeavour Scheme is a fantastic way for our community to collectively support our youth and help develop our leaders of tomorrow".
Nomination forms and information are available from Council offices or via Council's website - upperhunter.nsw.gov.au. For more information, contact Jodie Phelps on 6540 1142.
