Grants Workshop

A grants workshop held in Scone last Thursday was well attended with some 20 participants representing sporting groups throughout the shire attending.
Upper Hunter Shire Council's community grants officer Amelia Hohnen said Upper Hunter sporting groups had achieved considerable success in recent times with NSW Department of Sport and Recreation Capital Assistance Funding, and this was set to continue in the wake of the workshop. "The grants workshop held last Thursday evening was a great success with over 20 people attending," Ms Hohnen said.
"It was wonderful to see new faces with representatives from Upper Hunter Team Penning, Scone Netball and members from Woolooma Tennis Club attending," she said. "It was also pleasing to see residents of the Shire who had made the effort to travel to Scone from outlying areas."
Peter Britt from NSW Department of Sport and Recreation spent time running through the Capital Assistance Program application and provided examples of projects that would be funded and examples of how to best provide a description that would meet the department's criteria.
It was noted that applications that demonstrate community benefit to multiple groups, would always have a competitive advantage in this process.
As a result of the success of the workshop held in Scone, a second workshop is being held from midday today (Wednesday) at the Upper Hunter Shire Council's Merriwa office.
