Community members met with Upper Hunter Shire Councillors in Murrurundi during Local Government Week to view improvements to the kitchen of the RSL Hall and adjacent children's playground.

Mayor of Upper Hunter Shire, Cr Michael Johnsen, thanked community members, Julie Cornall, Kristy Papagni, the principal of Murrurundi Public School Jayne Schmarr, and school students for providing input into finalising the design of the new playground.  Positive feedback has been received about the new playground with increased usage from local school students, preschoolers and travellers stopping for a break and seeking out more information from the Visitor Information Centre.

Cr Johnsen acknowledged funding assistance from the Federal Government's Regional Infrastructure Program for the installation of the new kitchen in the RSL Hall.

Addressing the gathering, Mayor Johnsen encouraged school students to continue to take an interest in the improvements of local facilities such as the playground because when they are adults, they will be the custodians.

Cr Johnsen said "These projects demonstrate a positive partnership between Council and community members in achieving improved facilities for the benefit of all".
