Dubbo resident Elritha Pretorius chose the Upper Hunter Shire Council to formally become an Australian citizen, attending a ceremony at Council's Scone Chambers on Monday afternoon.
Upper Hunter Shire Council Mayor Michael Johnsen officiated and welcomed Ms Pretorius with gifts including an Australian native shrub, ahead of an informal afternoon tea.
Ms Pretorius, originally from South Africa, said she was working in hospitality in Dubbo but hoped to study nursing in 2010.
