Grants Workshop - Reward your Volunteers!

Last modified: September 8, 2009 - 9:19 AM

Community and Sporting groups may like to take the opportunity to get some assistance with the Volunteer Grants Program, closing 25 September.

Volunteer Grants 2009 recognises the valuable work of Australia's volunteers and is part of the Government's ongoing commitment to supporting volunteers and encouraging social inclusion in local communities. Funding is available to eligible non-profit organisations to purchase practical and tangible small equipment items to assist their volunteers, and/or to contribute towards reimbursement of fuel costs incurred by volunteers in their volunteering work, including those who use their cars to transport others to activities, deliver food and assist people in need.

Grants of up to $5000 are available with examples of eligible items including computers, air conditioners and barbeques. A set or package of small, individually low-cost closely related items, such as a range of gardening equipment is also eligible.

Community Grants Officer, Miss Amelia Hohnen said "there have been a high number of enquiries to the program and due to this demand; I will be holding workshops to provide practical help. We will go through the guidelines and application form and it is a good opportunity for groups to revisit their goals and look at what can potentially be secured."

Workshop dates are Merriwa, Thursday 10 September at 12pm and Scone, Friday 11 September at 12pm. Both workshops will be held in the Council Chambers.

Amelia's role is supported by the Coal & Allied Community Trust.
